SEND A LETTER URGING POPE FRANCIS TO SPEAK OUT AT ASIAN YOUTH DAY IN S. KOREA

Pope Francis

This summer, from August 14th to 18th, Pope Francis will be making a rare visit to South Korea to attend the Asian Catholic Youth Festival. The Vatican has announced that the Pope will be in Daejeon for a beatification ceremony of 124 Korean martyrs and to bring a message of peace to the divided Korean Peninsula. With the arrival of the Holy Father, we invite Pope Francis to speak on the topic of animal rights and illegal dog meat farming which have overshadowed the nation for decades. Korea is notorious for the brutality of its dog and cat meat industry, and it is estimated that over 2 million dogs are slaughtered each year in Korea alone–many of them beaten, strangled or torched prior to death. The dog meat industry in Korea continues to thrive because the government has refused to crack down on the illegal slaughtering of dogs, cats and bears. Animals in Korea deserve to live a healthy, fruitful life. We ask the Holy Father, as a compassionate individual and the moral authority for nearly a billion people, to send his voice to the Korean public urging the Korean society to rid itself of the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals. Only when the slaughtering ends will there be peace and righteousness in Korea.

Help us urge the Pope to speak against Korean Dog and Cat Meat Markets during the Asian Youth Festival!

Your Holiness,As you embark upon your Apostolic Voyage to the Republic of Korea this August, we ask you to find love in your heart for those poor creatures who have known nothing but pain, brutality and suffering all of their short lives. The routine cruelty with which Korean dogs and cats are tortured and slaughtered on a daily basis is truly horrifying and we beseech you to speak out, as the voice of morality for almost a billion people, against the dog and cat meat markets of the Republic of Korea. The lies used to propagate consumption of these animals (and advocate their torture prior to death) are fueled only by greed.

We ask you to acknowledge that the trading of life, any life, for economic gain irreparably damages a person’s soul and the soul of a nation. Please take the opportunity of this visit to lend your compassion and voice to those in dire need of it.

With every good wish to your holiness,

I am, sincerely yours,
