Poetry: Sequel to Christmas Kitten

I was kept in that shed for many a day, On )ust milk and water I wasted away. My eyes went all runny, my tummy did too, 1 thought I would die ‘cos I’d caught ‘cat flu1.

Then one day came footsteps I’d not heard before. The door was pulled open, my eyes were so sore that 1 couldn’t see anything — it was too bright, I was too weak to move – just imagine my plight.

Then a very kind voice said “Here kitt, It’s alright, You’re coming with us now, you poor little mite”. Just what was the difference I still can’t explain, But when they picked me up they caused me no pain.

Again I was taken away In a car,

But this time the journey was not very far, It was noisy and bumpy – but not like before, This time I was cushioned, not sat on the floor.

We quite quickly arrived – I was carried on in, It was lovely and spacious and so warm within, Someone checked me all over, but 1 didn’t mind, As somehow these people seemed terribly kind.

I remember they gave me some pills and a dish

Of some wonderful foodstuff I learned they called fish!! I just slept and ate for day after day, Then suddenly – Magic! – I started to play.

Some weeks have gone by and now comes my big day, I’m being ‘adopted’ and going away To start a new life of a permanent kind With a lovely old couple (my papers are signed!).

I met them before when they came to choose me, In fact I chose them if the truth’s plain to see! They’ve bought lots of toys with which I can play My new life looks great I’m happy to say.

They’ve got a big garden and even a shed,

But I’ll not sleep In there, “cos I’ll sleep on my bed!

This life is so lovely- I’m warm and well-fed,

AND I’LL LOVE MY NEW FAMILY UNTIL I AM DEAD!!
