Dobby: A Success Story
An abandoned cat tethered by a rope is liberated and rehomed.
When Laurine Le Roux first contacted IAKA about a cat kept on a tether near her apartment, we felt compelled to intervene. Laurine had recently moved to Korea from South Africa to teach English and was appalled to find the orange and white cat in deplorable conditions, bound by a rope in a small cage outside without food or litter. She said that she wanted to rescue the cat and give it a new home, but was new to Korea and needed support.
After receiving the report from Laurine, IAKA sent Korea representative Haesun Park to investigate the scene. Haesun arrived to find the cat in desperate conditions: imprisoned, hungry and starving for attention. It was unclear whether a person had abandoned the cat on the streets with the hopes that someone would come along to rescue it, but it was clear that the cat’s days were numbered if it remained there much longer. With the help of two associates, Haesun and Laurine worked to free the cat from the rope tied around its neck, and quickly brought it to a veterinary clinic to be rehabilitated, spayed and vaccinated.
The cat, now named Dobby, has recovered nicely from her surgery and is now living happily with Laurine in Paju City, Korea. We commend Laurine for her compassion and wish her and Dobby the best of luck together.
